Dr. John Powell at YWCA Racial Justice Summit 2014

Racing to Justice: Building  a Fair and Inclusive Community by Dr. John Powell

Points to Take Home

  • Structures can be many concepts, bias or obstacles that dont allow the success of people but especially

African Americans

  • Structures affect opportunities and access
  • We prefer to fix the people and not the structure
  • If we want different outcomes you have to plan
  • Don't be defensive about the information
  • It's about changing outcomes

The 2014 Mayor's Neighborhood Conference, with Don Edwards

Mayor's Neighborhood Conference 9/2014

Points to Take Home:

  1. Everyone has some sort of capitol, and it is not in the form of real estate.
  2. Value lies in what you can bring to the table
  3. The creation of great communites is not a race but a marathon.

The 2014 Mayor's Neighborhood Conference, Strong Leaders - Healthy Places. The full day event that brings over 300 neighborhood leaders from across Madison, WI together.  Don Edwards was the keynote speaker- Chief Executive Officer-Justice & Sustainablity Associates.  Mr. Edwards delivered a awesome speech on what must be done to create all inclusive cities.  When he spoke about race relations, he was dead on...I wanted to yell -"Put ya lighters up!" Like I was in a Jay Z concert!
